Koala Car No.39, 1963 Koala Motor Racing Developments Formula Junior – Group M Owner/Driver – Mike Rowe Built by John Joyce as a 24yr old in his grandparent’s garage in Toowoomba. The Koala was seen by Colin Chapman, racing at Lakeside QLD. Joyce was immediately offered a job at Lotus UK based on the Koalas build quality and design. In 5 years at Lotus, Joyce became Chief Development Engineer. Returned to Australia in 1968 and formed Bowin Race Cars. Bowin built 56 cars including F5000, F2 and FF. Bowin FF’s dominated the Australian FF Championship from 1970-1983 winning the championship in 1972, 74, 76 & 78. The Koala was the genesis for all this. The Koala has raced throughout Australia, Europe and the UK, including an invite to Goodwood.

The only factory produced Macon F2 car in the world, this car was purposely built for & imported by W.A.’s Craig McAllister in 1969. Macon was a Formula Ford manufacturer in the U.K. Having lead a full & sucessfull racing life in Western Australia it was rescued by Bob Biltoft in 1981 from being cut up to build a sports car. The GWG is an Australian built special by racing enthusiast Graham Gilbert of Victoria. The GWG used the Brabham BT18/21 as a basis design. This car ran on Victorian tracks of the late 60’s before being shipped to Tasmania & back again in 1980. This car came to W.A. in 2005 where it has been quite successfully campaigned since.
